"The PI Leaders study is designed to identify hospital leaders - CEOs, executive teams and boards - that have instilled a true culture of performance improvement across their organization," said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president of performance improvement at Solucient. "In every case, these leaders accepted the challenge to initiate change, building a culture receptive to improvement. These are leaders who have brought increasing value to the community year after year."
The study involved an objective analysis of publicly-available data on more than 6,000 U.S. hospitals in the areas of clinical outcomes, patient safety, efficiency, financial stability and growth from 1999 - 2004. According to Solucient, the Top 100 PI Leaders group improved hospital-wide performance in these areas consistently and substantially faster than their peer hospitals.
University Health System is one of just 15 major teaching hospitals in the country to receive this prestigious designation. "There are many in our organization whose innovative strategies and leadership efforts have contributed to this achievement," said George B. Hernández, Jr., University Health System president/CEO. "Consistently and efficiently improving the services we provide to our patients and our community continues to be our most important goal. This recognition tells me that our commitment to performance improvement is not merely a topic of high level discussions, but a part of our daily practice."
