Local students “draw” attention to safety
-Children honored for their “How I Stay Safe” calendar contest drawings-
About a dozen children from across Bexar County will be recognized for their unique drawings and powerful messages on safety. Students, ages 4-11, were invited to participate in the 2009 citywide “How I Stay Safe” calendar contest, sponsored by University Health System.

More than 3,000 children participated in the contest, which reinforces safety lessons taught in the classroom and at home. The contest gives students an opportunity to express their creativity while learning the importance of staying safe. Winners of the contest will receive a new bicycle with helmet, season passes to Sea World San Antonio and Splashtown San Antonio, plus movie passes. The winning drawings are published in an annual wall calendar and distributed to participating classrooms, to be used as a year-round educational tool for injury prevention.
