Walk in My Shoes!

- University Hospital administrators step into the shoes of nurses -

BACKGROUND: While nurses are on the “front lines” saving lives and caring for patients at University Hospital - the lead level I trauma center for Bexar Country, as well as all of South Texas – hospital administrators are more “behind the scenes” often focused on budgets, planning and other management functions.

On Tuesday, May 6, about a dozen administrators will trade in their business attire for scrubs and crocs. They will spend their entire morning shadowing University Hospital nurses on patient care units and experience first-hand what it means to be a nurse in a busy academic medical center.

University Health System is home to more than 1,500 registered nurses and LVNs. Often described as an art and a science, nurses have many roles – from staff nurse to educator to nurse practitioner and nurse researcher. All serve with a passion for the profession and a strong commitment to patient safety.

National Nurses Week is celebrated in May, in honor of the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. University Health System’s theme this year is Nurses Make the Difference Everyday!
