(San Antonio, TX - April 26, 2007) The first ever U.S. study ranking each state according to its summer death rate from accidental child injury will be released showing Texas and its ranking on May 4th at 10:00am.
The release of this study coincides with the kick-off of National Safe Kids Week in the U.S., April 28th - May 6th, 2007, and the beginning of summer, known by emergency personnel as "trauma season," because it is the time of year when accidental deaths and serious injuries increase dramatically. This year's theme is "Make it a Safe Kids Summer," in which educational efforts will focus on teaching parents and children about the many ways to prevent injury.
In 2004, 2,143 children died from May to August – an average of 17 children each day.
