Craniosynostosis - A newer, less invasive treatment

Dr. David F. Jimenez and Dr. Constance M. Barone are the developers and pioneers of a newer, minimally invasive endoscopic assisted techniques used to treat the set of conditions known as craniosynostosis or premature closure of skull sutures. They currently have the world’s most experience using these techniques and have performed over 400 procedures (Endoscopic Craniectomy) with excellent results. Their results have been published in multiple peer review medical journals, book chapters and other publications.

These procedures consist of removing the prematurely closed sutures through small scalp incisions and then with endoscopic assistance, small strips of bone (coronal, metopic, or lambdoid synostosis) or larger sections of bone (sagittal). Following surgery, patients are fitted for helmets which are used to gently mold the head into its normal shape. Helmets do not restrict brain growth but rather redirect it. These procedures provide parents and surgeons with safe and efficacious alternative for treating infants born with craniosynostosis.

Our website will help you find specific information about the different classes and types of craniosynostosis. You can see many video animations showing normal skull anatomy as well as animations depicting ways we treat sagittal, coronal and metopic synostosis. You can learn about our surgeons’ qualifications, training and experience by browsing their bio sketches. You can view video testimonials from parents whose infants were treated at our center and extensive photo galleries showing short and long term results. You can learn more about helmets and how they are used. Information is given about traditional treatment techniques and links to parental support sites are provided. For more in-depth reading you can access the list of publications. For more information, contact us directly at 210-567-5625.
